This was a busy busy Christmas and also another hard holiday emotionally. I stayed busy thinking I could run from the lingering thoughts that we would be two grandparents short at our family dinner as well as noticing there were two less gifts to buy this year. Addressing my grandma's card was hard saying to Grandma instead of to Grandpa and Grandma. As I am sure it was hard for her to sign her cards to us with just her name after 60 years of signing both names.
I worked Christmas Eve night at the ambulance many people criticized me for working on a holiday. Yes it was a holiday but I would be working while my kids were sleeping and home right after they woke up on Christmas Day. I honestly didn't mind working on the holiday when you are in fire ems or law you know there will always be a chance you are away from home on holidays. My kids told me to keep a look out for Santa when I was out and about on calls and transfers.
My partner that evening was really fun and cool. It was one of the last shifts he would work there since he is moving. Not long after I got there we got a call to take a patient from a local ER to a bigger hospital in Columbia. We were thinking well at least its fairly early in the night we will be back before 2am and able to get some sleep. In fact it ended up being one of the most memorable (in a good way) and best transfers I had ever had and I think it was the same for my partner. I can't go in to detail but lets just say that the guy was very old but wise and talked to my partner whole 1.5 hour drive as well as talked to me before and after the drive. Think he made us both think about some stuff and was a real blessing to have taken him on Christmas Eve. Heck he even gave me a compliment that I had nice hair...
As we left that hospital we talked about our patient for a bit and we were both just amazed at how it had went. I felt like it was a blessing of sorts for us to have taken this person and spent Christmas Eve with him. I needed a good shift after some rough ones and I am glad to have had it with the partner I was with that night as we had some rough times working together when I was first hired.
I got home a little after 8 Christmas Morning and the boys had just woke up. They were excited that Santa came and excited to show me my big gift.
I had wanted a bike ever since we moved in to the new house since we live on a gravel road. Blake had been begging me to get one so we could ride together and was super excited that I now have one. Now if the weather would just warm up a little so I can ride with him and hope I still remember how to ride!
The blue ones were from Santa and the boys loved the John Deere wrapping paper.
Blake wouldn't take a normal picture he wanted a silly one taken with the tree. Nathan however was happy to stand there and smile.
Blake was excited Santa got him the General Lee car as well as a Under Armor Camo sweatshirt he wanted DS game and a movie along with other things. Nathan was excited for his new boots Santa brought him that were just like bubbas.
After we cleaned up that mess I started in cooking Christmas dinner we would have my mom, stepdad, grandma and Kenny's mom, brother and his girlfriend over for dinner. Nathan wanted to help with something so I let him ice the cupcakes and it took him over an hour but he iced all 24 on his own.
While dinner was cooking and our families arrived we went ahead and did gift exchange with them as well. I had ordered all the grandparents photo calenders for 2014 and my grandma loved hers. It was hard putting pictures of the boys with my grandpa in there but I know that its memories she will cherish as well.
The boys got lots more toys cars trucks and clothes. Which are all piled in various places in the house..... We had a good dinner and by the time dinner was done I was wore out tired and trying really hard not to let it show. I did sit down when most everyone had left and took a short nap watching a movie with Nathan.
It was a good Christmas and hard to believe its over and that the year is almost over. I will have to do a post of the year in review and a post on my goals for 2014.

Weekly Chase
I can't believe its two days before Christmas where oh where did the year go!!!! I work office job til noon on Christmas Eve then work ambulance the rest of the day and night and get home at 8:30 Christmas morning.
Last week my goals were:
1-Drink more water I drink at least 80oz a day but would like to up it since I have been having an extra soda now and then. Water stayed the same but I didn't drink as much soda.
2-Get workouts in this week would really like to give the T25 videos a try bought them a couple months ago never opened them....Yeah that didn't happen.
3-Continue to bring healthy lunch daily and to fix healthy dinners at home at night. Did ok with this until the weekend and ended up working a 48 hour shift that wasn't scheduled so I had breakfast at the local diner, mexican and Jimmy Johns as my only food for 3 days.
4-Wrap all the Christmas gifts not a fitness goal but one that I need to quit procrastinating on. All but the photo calenders wrapped and they will be done today on my lunch break.
5-Aim for 55 HBBC points this week have been between 30-50 most weeks I need to get some good workouts in to step it up. I had quite a few points from working the structure fire Tuesday night was out there for 3.5 hours constantly moving carrying hose running hose lines etc. Major Major Major fail.....
Goals for this week:
1-Not stress about the holiday and cooking a big dinner. Working the night before and not having that time to prep food means I will be rushing to cook instead of watching the boys open gifts from santa and us :(
2-Drink lots of water this week. I know that working 45 hours on full time job then 48 for the weekend and back at it today at regular job I need to stay hydrated or I will end up sick.
3-Continue to build my self confidence and courage at my second job.
4-Find a way to spend some time with the kids this week with the busy schedules and holiday.

A compliment maybe...???
This has been one of those weeks to test every ounce of patience and strength I have.... But it's finally Friday.
Last night I had scheduled an hour long massage after work. Partly because I thought it may help mood and other part my gift certificate expires at end of month.
Seems each time I go I get a different person which was the case last night. I always had people who had a dark quiet room soft music playing and they didn't day much during the hour. Oh no not last night I had a lady who talked whole time. Not bad but just wanted quiet last night. She was nice and did an awesome job told me she was trained in Hawaii which was pretty cool so she has some different techniques.
As she was massaging my back and shoulders she told me I have a lot of muscle especially for a girl. Ok no one has ever said such and I was thinking is this good or bad.. Told me that being so muscular was good but made the knots a bit harder to work out. When she was massaging my legs she commented on my right strong calf and thigh muscles. By this time I was thinking oh no what have I got in to.. Never have I had anyone one compliment me for my muscles I dislike my legs they still have lots of jiggle and well I can't see my back but assume its jiggly too. I did leave her a great tip since she did awesome.
The massage helped my soreness but not really my mood. I picked the kids up and headed home we had gifts to wrap for their friends at daycare and well that was a trip! Nathan wanted to wrap two all on his own.
I let my control ways go and let him have at it he wrapped two and was proud. Blake wrapped a couple but was grumpy whole time. (It's been a tough week with him and I'm not sure why).
By that time it was 8 I sent them to bed and I crashed shortly there after on the couch.
Tonight I hope Kenny is home to share the parenting (been solo on that every evening this week) and want to make lots of cookies with the kids some for Santa and some for Christmas dinner.

Random phone photos
Last Tuesday night around 10pm got a fire page for a house fire. Ended up being right across the hwy from the fire station.
A couple mornings later saw this pretty sunrise on the way to drop kids off.
We did get our tree up and decorated went with all red balls this year with the exception of the two ornaments I got for the boys.
I worked Friday night and we had snow and ice which resulted in lots of ambulance calls. I took these two pictures Saturday morning when we were done with a call. 6 hours before we only had ice woke up to lots of snow
When I finally got off work found our road to look like this it was so much prettier when I knew I was almost home ;)

Weekly Chase
Another week has came and gone and we are close to Christmas as well as close to the end of the year....
Last week my goals were:
1-Continue to spend time with the kids. This went pretty well.. did have a few evenings that I felt like pulling my hair out cause all I was doing was breaking up feuds and constantly saying pick this up do that please eat your dinner....
2- Take a few pics of the boys so I can get photo gifts ordered soon. Well yes and no. I was able to find good photos on my phone as well as camera to work for the collage Christmas card as well as calendars for the grandparents.
3-Get in more fruits and veggies for HBBC Well got more veggies but not more fruits. Did eat a couple bananas I am just not a big fruit person.
4-Workouts would love to get a couple treadmill workouts in. HA HA BIG FAT FAIL.. The kids used the treadmill off and on during evenings this week but by the time I got them in bed and messes cleaned up I was wore out and falling asleep on the couch.
5-Continue with the squat challenge as well as doing my wall pushups when I use the restroom at work. (Not sure how much they help but figure somethings better than nothing) Did good first part of the week. But after working a house fire Tuesday night I was super sore for two days and then one day wore heels (can't do squats in them tried and it don't work) Still managed to get some in each day but fell way behind on the squat challenge.
6-Bring a healthy lunch each day this week. I did pretty good with that all week either brought lunch or got something healthy on my lunch break no fast food lunches of burgers or fries for me :)
Goals for this week:
1-Drink more water I drink at least 80oz a day but would like to up it since I have been having an extra soda now and then.

Christmas Party....
Party started at 6 and ate dinner soon after. It was very loud as we were crammed in a small room but it was nice seeing everyone outside of work (and in normal clothes lol). Some that are fairly uptight at work were letting lose and having fun which was nice to see a different side of them.
This was our first picture of the night before we ate dinner and had drinks. The dinner was amazing I should have took a pic but probably would have had some funny looks. We had smoked brisket, smoked turkey and smoked chicken, rolls, corn, baked potato, salad, cole slaw and I think that was all. It was SUPER good the guy who catered it did an awesome job. Lucky for him he is also in ems in a neighboring town so he didn't think we were to wild of a group.
Apparently the EMS people like to party and have a good time... I was still trying to process the party the next day!
They had a photo booth set up with all kinds of fun props and the lady posted them all online and you can download for free which is super cool.
Amanda and I decided to do the photo booth early (we frequented it again later as well)
Ok so maybe we had a couple drinks by then. The party was a lot of fun we had a dj/karaoke there (no I didn't sing and glad I wasn't asked I would have made a fool out of myself) however I did dance and alot which is rare for me and well I know there was video taken and pics thankfully they haven't ended up on facebook yet.... I am sure I don't dance well compared to some that was out there. Laurie and I had to get our pic together....
Me and Stephanie. I hadn't seen her much since I partied with her at their wedding reception a year ago. We had a lot of fun dancing and being silly.
This is all but maybe 3 or 4 of my coworkers we took a big group picture that turned out fairly well for it being mid way thru the evening.
The girls of SJAD we were missing 2 I think from this picture. I had always heard EMS is like a big family and well Friday night I saw that and was a part of it, which was nice. I have been there since March and never really felt like I had "fit" in with their group but in the last couple months that has changed and really changed Friday night.
This was closer to the end of the night... I am surprised we got us both in the picture... Most of the people went on to another bar to have an "after" party I opted not to go along. I stayed with a few and our boss and his wife to clean up the place and load all the supplies and left over food up in to the ambulance. I had planned on leaving from there and go straight home but the crew that was still there talked me in to coming to the base for a while to help them unload the stuff. I had quit drinking a while before that and knew I was fine. But they insisted I come by and hang out with them, was very nice that they cared enough to want me to wait a while before driving home.
The next morning I had several texts from people making sure I had made it home ok honestly don't know that I have really ever had that happen before. A lot of time I am the one making sure others got home but it was nice knowing they wanted to be sure I was safe.
I was told this was a MILD party compared to some no one mooned the train (although it was mentioned and we thought about doing it if a train came by). Everyone had fun left all the crap of work at the door and saw the real side of my coworkers. We all see each other for 12,24 or 48 hours at a time in uniform tired wore out stressed from bad calls or so many calls we can't see straight. Was fun to let lose and get to know some of the people I don't work with on a regular basis.

Weekly Chase
Its once again Monday. I have a post about my Ambulance Christmas party from Friday night to post about later.
Last week my goals were:
1- Continue to spend more one on one time with the kids. This one went fairly well. I was home almost every evening with them and we watched tv together and Nathan helped me decorate the tree Saturday. And I took Blake with me Saturday morning to the store to pick out a gift for a bday party sleepover he was attending.
2-Drink my water and keep soda cut back at home and work. I conquered home now to work on having it at work. Did really well on this some days I had none at work and if I did I filled cup all the way up with ice and then soda so it wasn't a full 32 oz of soda.
3-Get in at least 45 points for HBBC this week. Fell short by 2 points but I am ok with that. Got lots of workout with shoveling snow and scraping ice off my car windows at the end of the week still sore from that. Friday night had 3 hours of dancing at the Christmas party which my legs still feel :)
4-Put up our tree and let the kids put their trees up in their room. Strange goal but I know if I don't do it this week I will keep putting it off. Kids decorated their trees on Tuesday and we put the big one up on Saturday. Still needs some work since Nathan hung all the ornaments at his height
5-Not be as stressed and crabby at home with my husband. Still a work in progress but getting better.
6-Work on cooking healthier meals and getting EVERYONE in the house to eat them! Had chicken and turkey a lot this week and the kids ate it. Still need to work with them on trying more veggies.

Baby Fever......
Last Saturday I took the boys to finally meet April's baby Cash. He was a little over a month old. I have seen him twice since he was born but the kids hadn't. I of course hadn't told them I had seen and held him before them either... Nathan had been confused when he saw April last she was pregnant and he told her to get the baby out so he could see it. Well the look on his face when we walked in and she saw her holding the baby was so cute. Blake understood about babies being in mommys tummy then being born from when I was pregnant with Nathan. But this was a first for Nathan and he kept asking to pet him....
The boys took turns holding Cash and playing with the John Deere toys. I even go to hold him for quite a while.
Nathan said he was squirmy and hard to hold on to.
But a few minutes later wanted to hold him again.
Nathan wanted to take a picture of me holding Cash. Not to bad other than he cut half of me out lol....
The boys enjoyed their visit and getting to meet Cash. Both wanted to know when we could babysit him so they could spend more time with him. Holding him made me briefly want another baby but then I had to get on to the boys for being loud and rough with each other and that feeling went away :) I am glad to have friends that are having babies that I can hold and spoil.

A day of fun with the kids....
I was lucky enough for our office to he closed on Friday and wasn't scheduled to work at the ambulance. I had been thinking for quite awhile about taking the boys to Chuck E Cheese... Found some coupons online a week or so ago that were about to expire so I decided Friday would be a great day to go. I was worried there would be lots of people there with school being out and parents off work for the holiday. We had to drive a little over an hour to Colombia and the kids thought it was a super long drive and we would never arrive. I was a bit nervous taking the boys alone especially if the place was packed but forged ahead anyway. Blake has been there once when he was Nathan's age.
We arrived around 11 and was glad to see and empty parking lot!!! We went in got our pizza ordered got the drinks and tokens. Told the boys that they couldn't play games until they ate... So while we waited they looked around to what they wanted to play and do first.
Nathan had to ride this one several times. Then both boys realized if they played certain games they got tickets and could cash them in on prizes.
While we were there a friend of mine stopped by to visit.. Was so great to see Bethany after so many years. We text and email often so it was nice to talk face to face!! Next time ill have to plan my trip to Colombia in advance and find a nice day and meet at a park to let the kids play!
We stayed for several hours and finally ran out of tokens.
Of course all the prizes they wanted were way more tickets than they had earned.. So they got a couple bracelets a whistle and book marks.
It was a fun trip stress free while there... The drive to and from was filled with he's looking a me mom he's bugging me and are we there yet ;) but I am very glad I got to spend that time with the boys doing something fun. The whole rest of the weekend they talked about chuck e cheese.

Weekly Chase
Last week I got back in to doing the weekly chase and linking up with the other lovely bloggers that do this every week as well. Its so nice to read other peoples goals and very motivating to strive to do more and achieve more each week.
My goals from last week were:
1-Not stress over cooking a huge meal on Thursday I have the menu planned out in my head and it doesn't require to much prep work. I did so so with this.... It ended up being quite a bit of work but thankfully one of my bestest dearest friends showed up early on Thursday and helped me finish it up. I am not usually one who accepts help in the kitchen but she knows me well enough to know how to just jump in and help without stressing me out more :) Love friends like that!
2-Continue to cut soda out at home. Did good with that as well. I think I maybe only had on or two at home the whole week.
3-Aim to get at least 50 points in the HBBC challenge this week. I will take a lot of work on my part but I want to hit that number badly. Really wasn't sure this would happen and exercise had to come at short little bits that added up over the day but ended the week with 51!
4-Continue spending time with the kids and finding things they can help me with for Thanksgiving Dinner. Have a couple blog posts later but Friday I took the kids to Chuck E Cheese and then Saturday took them to a friends house to see her new baby. One night I laid in bed with Nathan and watched the movie Planes and then Saturday night Blake laid on the couch with me watching a show he wanted to see on tv.
5-Not let things get to me so easy.. let it go in one ear and out the other. I know this week will be a hard week emotionally for both Kenny and I. I made it thru Thanksgiving with no major meltdowns but had a rough evening Friday and yesterday at work tested me quite a bit but still managed to make it without being over stressed and upset.
Goals for this week:
1- Continue to spend more one on one time with the kids.
2-Drink my water and keep soda cut back at home and work. I conquered home now to work on having it at work.
3-Get in at least 45 points for HBBC this week.

Thanksgiving.
We had a good thanksgiving day and dinner at our house. We ended up with 10 adults and our two kids. A nice mix of family and close friends. Both of my grandmas were there which was nice not to often that I get to see both one from my dads side and the one from my moms side. They have known each other longer than I've been alive and enjoyed catching up with each other.
We cooked our turkey on the grill yum.
I made all the food except the sweet potatoes and pumpkin pies. It was a late night and early morning but I pulled it off with no major meltdowns or to much stress.
I made a chocolate banana cake which ended up being really good it was a spur of the moment concoction.
Both of my grandmas. I have a good pic of my grandma in the yellow shirt with the boys watching a movie on my camera.
We ate and sat at the table and talked for a long time was very very nice. Nathan got quiet and I found him like this.

Holidays=Stress
Not sure why holidays always seem to equal stress but they do. I am stressed about pulling together a big Thanksgiving dinner at our house tomorrow for several family members and close friends. Making my to do lists got overwhelming last night. Sitting at work today thinking about all that needs to be prepped parts of the house that need to be cleaned. Not sure how Grandma always made it look so simple and stress free when I was a kid.....
This year has a bit more added emotional stuff along with stress. Knowing that two grandparents won't be sitting at our table is hard to think about. But happy that they were both healthy last year and able to enjoy both Thanksgiving and Christmas with us in our new house.
Last year on Thanksgiving my Grandpa was starting the signs of a heart attack I didn't notice a whole lot as I was busy, did notice he seemed tired wore out and not his usual self, however knew he was having bleeding in his urine from his kidney and that he was worried on getting test results on the biopsy that was done. The next day I became more worried when he asked me to come over there and talk to him. I was pretty darn sure he was having a heart attack and did my best to talk him in to going to the ER. I failed at my first attempt and then again on the second one but he finally gave in and we went in around 9pm. So even before his cancer and death the last few months I knew that Thanksgiving would hold some heavy memories.
I still have a hard time going over to see my Grandma it didn't bother me at first now it does. Not sure how she is doing with the holidays she said she is ok but haven't been around her long enough period of just me and her to really get an idea. Very glad she has still decided to walk across the road and eat dinner with us and is making the pumpkin pies.
Explaining to the kids why one set of their grandparents didn't want to come is always fun NOT! I told Blake this year to ask them why they weren't coming don't see its my place to make excuses for my mom any more.
I want the holidays to be fun filled with great memories for my kids, I had some great holiday memories from my childhood at my grandparents house and my great uncles but there has always been unhappy parts from most of the years. I just don't want that for my kids. And is probably why I stress so much more over making everything just right and perfect.
My menu for tomorrow is:
Turkey on the grill stuffed with apples, oranges, lemons, spices and apple and orange juice and then basted with the juice.
Mashed potatoes one bowl made regular way with butter and milk and one bowl made with only almond milk
Green beans that grandma canned from their garden this year (hope I can get as close to the taste as she always does)
Cream corn we made from our corn crop this summer
Stuffing (have to admit its coming from Stovetop out of the box. I am not a big fan of stuffing and Kenny said boxed stuff suited him just fine. If someone don't like it they should have offered to help cook)
Mother in law is bringing some sort of sweet potato dish
Stuffed mushrooms with cream cheese and sausage/and some with just sausage
Jalapeno bacon wrapped poppers/Sweet pepper bacon wrapped poppers in the oven
Lil smokies for appetizer and for the boys in case they don't want to eat the turkey
Rolls
Dessert: Grandma is baking the pumpkin pies and I am doing cupcakes
Oh and I am sure there is some food I am forgetting. Just hope to make it thru the day with no major meltdowns or to much stress and that everyone has a good time and enjoys themselves.

Weekly Chase
Once again Monday how do the weekends fly by..... I was off the entire weekend from all jobs and it felt so strange! Saturday the boys all went hunting and then yesterday they went out again but the kids stayed with my stepdad while Kenny hunted.
Im so glad my best friend is here for a visit just hate the circimstances of her visit and the hard talks and questions she has for me. I question if I am the right person to help her and her older sister thru this.
Last week my goals were:::::::
1-Get in at least 2 workouts during my lunch breaks, I fell out of that habit when work was crazy busy and I know it will help my mood and stress level. Ha well that didn't really happen however one day I ate lunch with Kenny which was nice and much needed. Other days I got errands done and didn't sit at my desk working every day which is a plus.
2-Drink only water, milk and juice at home. Have a case of Dr. Pepper and find myself having one during the evening way to often. Did good until Saturday when I was home alone had one or two and one yesterday. But did drink lots of water at home too!
3-Be better on eating healthy breakfast and lunches prepping things the night before. Was so so on this one. I worked Thursday night so I wasn't home to prep breakfast or lunch. But tried to be sure I had some options at work like cheese sticks and hard boiled eggs to snack on. Not just junk food and candy. Lunches were ok the one day I ate fast food I regretted it the entire afternoon.
4-Spend more quality time with the boys. Did pretty good with this. I only worked my second job Thursday night and before I went to work I was able to go to dinner with Kenny and Blake and watch Blake's music program at school.
Goals for this week:
1-Not stress over cooking a huge meal on Thursday I have the menu planned out in my head and it doesn't require to much prep work.
2-Continue to cut soda out at home.
3-Aim to get at least 50 points in the HBBC challenge this week. I will take a lot of work on my part but I want to hit that number badly.
4-Continue spending time with the kids and finding things they can help me with for Thanksgiving Dinner.
5-Not let things get to me so easy.. let it go in one ear and out the other. I know this week will be a hard week emotionally for both Kenny and I.

An evening out with a good friend.
Yesterday evening I was able to go out with one of my best friends Lesley. She had flown back from Hawaii to spend the last days with her mom. She came to our house for dinner I made dr pepper BBQ oven chicken mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli. She brought us a few bags of these.
She picked these up I think at trader joes before she drove down here from St. Louis. They were super yummy!
After dinner and getting the kids ready to bed we left to go spend some time together. First stop gas station she wanted a bottle of St. James wine and I grabbed these.
The peach one was good havent tried the strawberry one. We spent time talking and driving the back roads we used to when we were young.
We must be old because by 10:30 we were home and exhausted! Of course the kids had me up super early this morning.
Not sure what our plan is for today but its super cold outside!!

Tuesday Thoughts
Later this week one of my best friends is coming back to Missouri I am super excited to see her and spend time with her. but sad she's coming back for the last days with her mom before her mom passes away.
I just hope I can help her somewhat thru the difficult time. I've known her mom my whole life and is a super sweet person mad that cancer is taking her away from her daughters granddaughters and rest of her family.
Over the weekend Kenny took the boys hunting in their new hunting trailer my stepdad built for them. I haven't seen it in person but the pictures make me want to go out and hunt. That thing is huge and nice.
He put chairs and a bed in there so the boys could have room to move and stretch and take a nap. I love the walls and ceiling and of course the boys love it. Kenny is taking off work a couple days this week and one of those days he is taking Nathan hunting and he's super excited!
Last night I got ambitious and drug the step ladder in the kitchen to put my old tins on top of my cabinets. I had got these at an auction last month but they sat in a box in the dining room until last night.
Don't mind the flowers in the pictures my counters are loaded with flowers from the funeral last Thursday.
I'm glad to finally have some decorating done since we have been in the house a little over a year.
