Rough week ahead

Saturday afternoon and evening turned out to be great. Then Sunday I wasn't able to attend my friends Project 11 party which I had really looked forward to going to. But life happens and things come up and it seems like the mom is always the one making the sacrifice on things we want to do.
I dread this week each year and it doesn't seem to get much better any year, I would blog about it but just not sure where to start or how to deal with the thoughts. I have realized I never have dealt with this and have been swallowing it and burying it for years now. On top of that we have a blizzard warning and lots of snow which will make my morning drive to day care and work quite interesting. To bad I can't be like kids and have a snow day!
So that being said if there are no new posts from me until next week that is because I am not in a happy mood to think of things to write about.

One down many more to go

Well all my nerves were really for nothing because as soon as I got there found my spot which I already knew where I would sit as the seating hadn't changed from the days my mom was Secretary. I got my laptop out and all set up and then the President and Treasurer handed out lots of papers to look at I quickly freaked and then told myself to calm down that it would all work out just fine. The meeting started and it was like I fell right in to place knew what to do and even joined in some of the discussions. I already knew all the board members and the President said see there is nothing to be nervous about you know everyone. The meeting was pretty long and I typed a couple pages of notes that I now need to look over revise and put in to the form for the next meeting. The meeting lasted quite awhile and when I got home I was pleased to see that the kids were already bathed fed and sound asleep. So I got some nice quiet time with Kenny which was super nice after he had been out of town most of the week. Of course he had tons of questions about my meeting which was nice.
Before the meeting we had hair cuts scheduled for Blake, Nathan and Kenny. I knew I would be cutting it very close on time from dropping them off to me getting back to the fire house. While we were there Donnie came by and was giving me a hard time about being over dressed for the meeting. He stayed and was getting his hair cut when we left. I think he knew how nervous I was since he has known me since I was really little and knows its way out of my comfort zone.
I emailed the Treasurer this morning and told her to let me know if she needed help with anything as I could tell last night she is very overwhelmed with her duties. I also realized she ended up taking on some of the duties that I know the Secretary and President used to help with and now she does it all on her own. She replied and thanked me for the offer and said she would really appreciate my help.
So very happy the meeting went so well and that I felt right at home with the group of people, I guess being around the fire department my whole time growing up really paid off. I absorbed more information than I realized back then.

Five Question Friday

I will post later about my first official meeting.

1. If you had $1,000 to donate to a charity, which would you choose?

I would either donate it to a local charity or split it among those who are raising money to adopt children.

2. Snow days: Do you welcome them happily or are they a pain in your butt?
I welcome them when I don't have to work and can go out and play with the kids. Not real fond of them when I have to drag the kids out and about and get to work makes for a stressful morning.

3. What talent did you wish you had and why?
Well I used to play clarinet and was in concert choir so I can't say be more musical. I did always want to be able to ballet not sure if that qualifies as a talent.

4. Are you a news, politics or celebrity gossip junkie?
Actually none of the above on occasion I will read a news article about a fav celeb or read about politics. I do usually keep up on the local news.

5. What is your favorite "cocktail"?
I love unsweet tea from Sonic. As for an adult beverage I like Electric Screwdriver or a glass of home made wine.

3.5 Hours to go...

Well tonight is the night I have my first offical meeting as the new secretary. On Tuesday I started searching for the perfect laptop bag and found this one on ebay.
I had hoped it would be in today and so far no luck. The order status says delivery between todays date and Tuesday of next week. So I guess I will take my big bulky laptop bag to my first meeting. I am extremly nervous about tonight and have been staying busy trying to keep my mind off of it. I know I will do just fine once I am there its the getting there part that freaks me out. I had the same fears and anxiety about my first auction I worked and I survived that just fine.

Monday thoughts......

I have worked my tail off the last few weeks at work and I think it may finally be paying off. I think I have a handle on all the files in the office that I need to work on.

Starting today I will be doing the single parent thing until Thursday while I know I can do this it sure doesn't make it any easier on me or the kids. Need to keep myself extra busy with them and after their bed time keep myself busy with cleaning and working out.

Also this week will be my first official meeting as the new Secretary, I know they don't expect me to know it all first meeting or to be perfect. But I am nervous about being liked which is strange considering I know everyone yet the fear that I need to prove myself is there. I did find out that there aren't more than 10 people at most meetings and I won't have to sit up in front of everyone as they put the tables in a u shape.

Most everyone I have told about this thinks its great I have had a couple that are like why in the world would you want to do this. While it would be easy to get discouraged by them I know this is the right thing for me. However I haven't told anyone in my family other than my mom about this position and no one in my husband's side of the family knows. I can already hear what his grandma and mom's reaction will be and it won't be a nice comment either. So I figure what's the point of telling people whom I know won't be supportive and  happy for me. My husband was on the fence about the whole thing and after I got my official email he was cool with it and asking tons of questions. I really think it surprised him about how much I knew about the Fire Department, Firefighting and the workings of the board. He always knew that I was around it growing up but apparently never realized how much I knew.

I really need to get into a workout routine and make it a daily habit they say it takes 21 days to form a new habit so I guess I need to start and stick with it. I have a goal I want to reach by October and with January almost gone I really need to set a plan that will stick into action. Since it will just be me in the house after bedtime I think I will use the wii a bit more and try some more advanced workouts. We need to make a healthy lifestyle change for us as well as for our kids. I want to be able to continue to run and play with them and not get to the point to where I can't because of weight or health.

Sledding

Friday afternoon a friend of mine and I decided that we would take our oldest kids sledding on Saturday. So Friday night we spent the evening driving all over town looking for a tube or plastic sled, the only thing we had was a wooden sled with the metal rails. I knew the snow wasn't right for those to work well. Saturday morning I got up and called all over Rolla, St. James and Owensville looking for a sled. Finally Family Center said they had two tubes left so we rushed up there and got it.
We met our friends Donnie, Ramona and their oldest girl Dimesha in Vichy and thought about where to go everywhere I used to go was either growed up or someone we didn't know lived there now. Same with Donnie his sledding spot has a house sitting in the middle of it. So Dimesha's grandma told us to sled in her yard it wasn't a big hill but plenty big for the kids.
So below is Blake making his first trip down the hill in the back yard.
He went down a few times and so did Dimesha. I also tried this hill but there is no picture of me trying it. The joys of having a phone no one can work no un autorized pictures of me (which is why my camera stayed in the car I didn't trust Donnie with it)

We then decided to try the hill next to the garage which was also along the highway. Anyone who drove thru Vichy on Saturday or Sunday got to see us sledding, me included. I can't say how many texts I got asking if I was sledding and how many emails and comments in church yesterday. I can say that sledding when you are 27 is a lot rougher than when you are 5! My body is sore today and bruised from 3 hours of sledding on Sat and 3 hours on Sun. But the kids had a blast and so did the adults. However I was the only adult to go down about as many trips as the kids but it was a great workout.
Here are some more pictures from our two days of sledding.
Above is a picture of Dimesha going down after
her Uncle Mark gave her a good push down the hill.
And below is Mark going down the hill.

Blake and Dimesha decided to try and tube together
which worked out pretty good and they went alot farther
And this would be me before my crash at the fence.
Yesterday we were trying a new sled thing and a new hill
Of course Ramona thought I should go first so here I am
We then took the new sled things back to Vichy
where I talked Mark in to trying it out.
Then I had to try it out in the driveway before we
                                                    let the kids try.

It was a lot of fun sledding with friends and while I am super sore today it was well worth it to have good quality fun. Blake already wants more snow so we can go sledding again. I am very happy that I am able to sled with my kids (well Nathan will sled next year) and that Kenny enjoys going out and sledding with them as well. I think Kenny and Mark had more fun pushing the kids down and laughing at me sledding than they did on their trips down the hill. Although I do belive they all had a good laugh at me trying to stop before hitting the ditch or fence.

A New Chapter Begins........

Well it's taken me all day to try and get my thoughts in order for this post. And I am not real sure they are there yet but I need to blog about it anyway.

Last night after work we decided to come back to town to do our weekly shopping and go out to eat. We normally do this on Friday night but with the chance of more snow coming today we decided to go it a day early. I was still super nervous watching my phone even though I knew I wouldn't get the call or text before 8 at the earliest. We did our shopping and ate dinner and headed home. I had to stop at the bank and post office which is right next to the fire department. I saw that everyone was still there for the meeting and Kenny asked what was going on there, I said that's the group of people who will determine who the next Secretary will be. After the kids went to bed I was still awaiting the call or text and to pass the time Kenny and I played wii which was fun and a good workout.
8:30 came and went and then it was 9:00 came and I was getting worried figuring yep meeting is done and I didn't get it. Then 9:21 I get the call while it was the unofficial call it was still the one I needed, I was excited and happy and no matter how hard I tried I couldn't play wii very good after that. I got the official email at 10pm last night from the president, and in her email she told me that Don told her to wait awhile as he wanted to be the first to tell me.
I found out that the first meeting is Thursday January 27! That scares the tar out of me, I was thinking I had a month to mentally prepare but I only have 6 days. I know I will do fine and I was told today that the vote was unanimous for me even with another person nominated for the position.

Still very nervous and anxious to find out what exactly all my duties are but I know that the Treasurer and President and well even the Vice President will be there supporting me the whole way. The President knows how nervous I am and I am sure she remembers her first time after being nominated and elected as President.

A better post will follow with more information and of course a post after my first official meeting as Secretary.

5 Question Friday

Well I will start with this since I can't get my mind to focus on writing the post I should be posting.

1. Where did you meet your spouse and did you instantly know it was love?

We met at his grandmas, I had known who he was most of my life and likewise with him he knew who I was but we never talked. I pretty much knew after our first date it was something pretty special. Or maybe it was because our first date we got stuck in a truck on an old abandoned railroad bridge...

2. What is your favorite room in your house?
My new house it will be my dinning room but my current house I would have to say livingroom

3. Can you wiggle your ears?

Nerves, Nerves, Nerves...... They are getting the best of me.

Well I have done my best to keep myself super busy all day. And so far it has worked up until now. I know I shouldn't worry about if I get the secretary thing or not. Because if its meant to happen it will however that doesn't help my nerves one bit. I am a natural born worrier I suppose I get it natural from my mom I have been working really hard on changing this about me.

So I have occupied a few minutes trying to find the perfect pink laptop bag. I told Kenny that if I get the position I want a pink laptop bag that will hold my files and my laptop. We have a real nice one however its big bulky and has all the software discs, books and extra stuff that I don't need to carry around all the time.
But I soon realized I need to know how big my laptop is in order to pick the right one out, but I have looked for good deals and found some I really like.

The meeting is at 7pm tonight thank goodness I don't have to be there because I would be so nervous I may throw up. However I will be pretty nervous checking my phone to either A) get a phone call saying I got it or B) receiving a text saying I didn't. Yes I set it up so I would know either via phone call or text. I don't want a phone call saying nope sorry because I don't want the person on the other end to hear the disappointment in my voice.

My fingers are crossed that I get good news tonight that I can post here tomorrow!

This is the week......

Well the wait is almost over... I was told yesterday that the meeting to decide the new Fire Department Secretary is going to be on Thursday. However I wished that I wouldn't have known until oh say Thursday.
I did however come to this realization yesterday after a talk with a friend. The Fire Department has always been a part of my life my dad was a fire fighter my mom's best friend was one of the only women fire fighters on the department. My mom helped with alot of fundraisers and then was the Fire Department secretary for several years. Its only natural that I have a passion for it and never realized how much so until I was in highschool.
In being back around everyone and everything it has been very hard to be around it but not a part of it. In my mind to be a part of it was to be a fire fighter. Yesterday I realized that helping with the fundraisers and auctions was being involved. Being the secretary is more involvement than most of the fire fighters have and I will be contributing a lot more to the department than if I was just a fire fighter. Yes it will still be hard being there and hearing the pagers go off knowing I can't go and be a part of that I am just very happy that I am being one of the people selected to become the new Fire Department Secretary.
I have a feeling that I will also be the youngest board member they have ever had, thankfully most all of the other board members have known me since I was Blake's age. There are a few members that may not like someone so young coming in but I am prepared to show them I can do this job and do it well.
So hopefully on Friday I can make a post with the results of the meeting as I am sure I will hear Thursday night (even if its unofficially since I am sure the chief won't be able to wait for the president to call me) if I have the job.

3 Day Weekend

Well I had a 3 day weekend and at the start of Friday there weren't any plans. By Friday evening I had planned on meeting a friend and her two girls to sled (then the snow melted) so we decided if it was warm enough we would take the kids to the park. No such luck it was cold on Saturday morning would have been ok for the two older ones but our youngest didn't need to be out in the damp cold air. So on to plan B...
Kenny decided it was to cold and wet to do what he had planned for Saturday so we decided to drop Nathan off at my in laws and take Blake to Springfield to Bass Pro, it had been a long time since we had done something together with just Blake and Kenny really wanted him to see the museum and all the animals there. He was disappointed we weren't going to spend the day playing with Dimesha but excited to see where we were going. We get to Bass Pro and the museum was closed for remodel just our luck but we still spent hours there looking at everything I was able to take a couple pictures...
Blake wanted his picture taken with the race car

And this one was for his April. He told me to take his picture next to the hog to show her he is ready to shoot the pig this year..

We ate dinner at IHOP which was good and Blake ate quite a bit we drove home and picked up Nathan. Since Nathan had spent the day with his grandparents Blake thought he should get to spend the night with them.

Sunday we got up and Nathan and I went to church then after we picked Blake up and all 4 headed to Best Buy to look into getting a Wii. Well we got one and I am in love with it. You get a workout without realizing it plus its fun. Blake loves it and he jumps and bounces all over while playing. Since I now have a video camera I may have to capture him playing Wii.

Monday I was off since it was a holiday Blake had school. I had planned on practicing with the Wii but ended up having lunch with a friend. It wasn't the day I had planned but it was a great day. I was able to be home in time to have dinner cooked and ready for Kenny and to have all the chores done before 6pm!

Five Question Friday

I read these questions earlier this morning and debated on answering them or not. And since I have lots of thoughts swirling in my mind that I haven't nailed down to blog about I will just do this for now.

1. What movie could you watch over and over again and not get tired of?
I actually have two movies I could watch over and over one of them was from when I was younger which   was 8 seconds.
The other is Sweet Home Alabama not sure why that was always a favorite of mine, as I have watched tons of movies since but that one I will sit and watch each time its on tv.

2. What's your biggest pet peeve right now?
Blake picking on Nathan and aggravating him just because he can and that he drags his feet on getting things done knowing it upsets me. I know its all just a stage and that siblings will have arguments wrestling matches and such but being an only child myself its hard to adjust to these things.

3. If you had to describe your best friend in five words or less, what would you say?
This is the question that almost made me not post. I don't have one best friend I have several friends who are all different but we click in our own ways. Some I love shopping with, others are friends with kids, some that have known me since day one that just get me, friends that are in to fitness and weightloss, and then there are friends that I email, call or text when I need someone to talk to about things.
So if I have to pick just one it would be a friend I email daily well when work doesn't keep us from it and I really missed our daily emails when her job got super busy.
1.Super sweet
2. Loves my kids as if they were her own nephews
3. We are both shy in some of the same situations but thanks to her help she has helped me jump out of my comfort zone a few times
4.If I ever would have had a sister I would have wanted it to be her.
5.Truly genuine person and a lot of fun to have as a friend.
Yes I know that was way more than 5 words but 5 words just couldn't cut it.

4. If you did not have to worry about money or go to school what would you do for a living?
Be a stay at home mom, but also be an EMT or Fire Fighter part time.

5. What is your one "splurge" item, that you will always buy, no matter the cost?
Soda we have tried the generic brands and it just isn't the same and with soda almost 7.00 a case that splurge is rare. The other is ice cream we always buy Blue Bunny the rest just doesn't taste as good.

Saturday Night Dinner with Friends.

This past Saturday we went out to eat with Donnie, Ramona and their two girls Dimesha who is 5 and Elizabeth who is 15 months. We have been around them some over the summer but was our first time going out to eat as two couples and four kids.
Blake wanted to sit with Dimesha which was fine I wish I would have got a picture of them together. They both picked on each other and acted like they didn't like each other. Until the car ride home Blake wanted to call Dimesha and see if she could come play with him. And I received a text from Ramona saying that Dimesha was doing the same thing.
We ate at a local Chinese restaurant one they go to frequent enough the waitress' know them quite well. Nathan and Elizabeth were at opposite ends of the table thru dinner and then Elizabeth tried to climb out of the seat and crawl towards Nathan. So we moved them so they could be side by side and I snapped this picture with my phone.
Nathan was feeding her rice, she then shared her cookie with him. It was so cute to watch them interact with each other.

One of the waitresses thought that Romona and I were sisters... Ramona thought it was cool that she thought that I am not to sure yet. But we had a nice time and will probably do it again. Our kids all get along great together and its nice knowing another couple who is our age that has children the same age as ours.

Possibley a new and exciting adventure in store for me!

Have you ever had something that you wanted to happen and you know will probably happen but yet scared to talk about it for the fear it will fall thru?? I have had that battle in my mind since November and then got to be more of a battle in mid December. Now its down to the wire on knowing for sure if this thing will happen or not. In fact I am about 99% sure it will happen but that 1% scares me enough I haven't mentioned this to very many people actually maybe 5 people know about the possibility. And only two know about the email I got yesterday (well other than the sender of the email) So after some sleepless nights thinking, I think I need to just blog about this.

Back in November it was mentioned to me that I would be a good person to fill the Secretary position for the Fire Department. I was like oh yeah whatever fully thinking I would never actually be considered for the job. Then in December I found out that the current Treasurer whom I haven't really seen or talked to in over 10 years recommended me for the position without knowing that someone else had already thrown my name in. Apparently there isn't an overwhelming amount of people who want the job partly because you have to know how to use a computer and know how to email and partly because no one wants to step up and say yeah I would do it. I sure didn't step up and say hey I want the job I was asked and I think they weren't sure if I would turn and run or stay and say ok.

I know they have a meeting sometime this month to decide who the new secretary will be and decide if the current treasurer and vice president will remain the same. Not sure when the meeting is I keep asking Don if they have had the meeting yet. Then as I was checking my email yesterday before going in to a friends baby shower. I got an email that made my stomach do flip flops out of fear, nerves and excitement.

Here is the email I received from the president of the Fire Department:
Shelly: It was mentioned that you might be interested in serving as secretary for the fire department, so I wanted to check with you before I discussed with the board. The primary duties are to take minutes at the meetings and prepare the official meeting minutes, send thank yous, do mass email notifications to members and help at as many fund-raisers as possible. I know you are busy with work and the little ones but if you think you are interested we can talk more. The board meetings are the fourth Thursday of each month, except Nov. (1st Thursday) and December (no meeting.) Your mom did it one year, so you might get her perspective. I don't think much has changed! Let me know what you think. Bonnie

Of course I replied back that I would be interested and that I had talked with my mom about her time as Secretary and that she enjoyed her time there. I think my mom did it for a few years and she thinks its neat that I have been asked to do the job now.

So now its just a wait and see. Kenny is ok with it and a perk is I get in to the fair free! I already help with auctions which I really enjoy and had already planned on helping at the fair this year. Heck I am there the whole time anyway might as well help the fire department make some money. I am still nervous about it fearing that if I get excited it won't happen even though I am pretty sure no one else is even getting mentioned for the position. Scared that I will be up in front of the rest of the board during meetings typing away on my laptop. Then trying to figure out how to make all the notes I take in to meetings make sense and in a form to print and hand out during the next meeting. Seems overwhelming but I know that Bonnie and Stephanie will be there with me and show me how it all works they have watched me grow up and so its like coming home I already know everyone. Plus I will get to use my laptop more frequently and may even buy myself a pink laptop bag to use.

5 Question Friday

1. What is your current favorite book, and why?

Not sure that I have a current favorite since I rarely have time to read. However I liked the book that Julie Hadden wrote about her weight loss battle and being on the biggest loser. I am going to order the book Friendship for Grownups this week.
2. Do you go to the dentist regularly?
Yes and No, not as regular as I should but Blake goes every 6 months.
3. What is your worst memory from High School?
There are lots of memories I'd like to block out. I didn't enjoy High School at all but one regret is not staying in contact with a few of my friends I had then. And now its to late for one of those as she passed away a few years back. I kick myself daily for not keeping in touch with her because from graduation until her funeral I hadn't spoke to her.

4. What do you hope to be remembered for in your life?
Not really sure other than being remembered as being a great friend, wife, mother, daughter and granddaughter.

5. Are you superstitious or do you have any superstitions?
Well yes and no. I won't walk under a ladder which made things tricky in Fire and Rescue because you had to stand under the thing to hold it in place for the person climbing it.
My husband used to turn around and go the other direction if a black cat crossed our path, but now he doesn't even pay attention. I however still look to see if its an all black cat or not.
Not sure if this counts but I always remove and put in my contacts in the same order each time if I don't it feels really strange (yes I think I must be weird)

It's a New Year!

Hard to believe that its already January 5! Nathan has gotten much better at walking and is now trying to run to keep up with his big brother.

Friday I had to work and I dropped the kids off with my father in law and brother in law for the day. The unusually warm temperatures were nice but I knew something big would happen. And sure enough 9 am at work the tornado sirens were going off. Normally I am petrified of storms but Friday I held it together and watched outside checked my phone for the radar (love the weather channel app for my phone!) Talked to several friends and family, I knew that there for sure was a tornado in Fort Wood and that it was coming right for Rolla. Thankfully right before it got to town it turned I do believe that he devastation and death toll may have been a lot higher if it would have barrelled thru the middle of Rolla. I looked at the radar again and it looked as if it was headed for Vichy so I patiently waited for a phone call from Don or Mark. I checked on my kids and grandparents and they were fine oh and our new house was fine, Kenny called and wanted me to call and ask my grandma if our house was fine. He apparently didn't care about our current house just our half built one?? Anyway about 20 minutes after the storm passed Don called to see if I was ok as the radio traffic said there was for sure a tornado in Rolla and then he told me it missed Vichy. My boss got a phone call that her brothers house was gone so she left to check on them and told us to leave at noon. I was happy to get off early but not happy that so many people were having a bad start to the new year.

So I spent Friday afternoon with Brenda and Don and we drank coffee with a little Bailey's Irish Cream in it and went thru a mountain of lighting fixture books and books with faucets and ceiling fans. But we did pick out several that I can now let Kenny help me chose from. I knew the massive amount of books was daunting to both of us and thankful for Brenda and Don for looking thru all of them and helping me narrow it down. I then met Kenny at home and we went to Sput's Place for the evening, he had wanted to take me out for a nice dinner but I told him no sense in driving back to town and Sput has great food so we ate there. It was a nice time a friend of mine was also celebrating her 30th birthday there so I had a few friends to talk with thru out the night.

Saturday we got up, picked the kids up and headed for St. Louis to see my husband's grandma oh and for him to buy a gun. Some huge pistol that apparently is cool??? I am not big in to guns and I guess you can't have to many even though they sit around in the gun safe collecting dust. We decided to drive thru Lone Elk Park right outside of Fenton and Blake was able to see Bison up close and several Elk up close. I did get some pictures but haven't uploaded them to the computer yet. We had a nice visit with family and then a long late drive back.

So far this year has started out pretty good, I have been able to save money by not eating out at noon because its convenient. I hope that I can keep that trend going because 2 or 3 dollars here or there really adds up.
